Angelina Jolie, Mismatched Heels and Cinnamon Buns!

Filed under: Uncategorized — kancilz at 5:10 am on Thursday, July 10, 2008

Right… For anybody who really knows me, they probably know that I usually have vivid dreams… Sometimes scary, sometimes highly disturbing but most of the time the dreams are just plain weird… Though this one doesn’t really rank high on the weirdness scale, it’s the only one I remember at the moment :P I’ll try and write proper (whatever that means…)

The hotel lobby was high class with black marble floors and crystal chandeliers lighting every corner of the grandiose space creating rainbow reflections on the walls. I felt out of place and under-dressed, I was wearing a pair of worn jeans, a vintage coca-cola t-shirt and a pair of Birkenstock. I half expect the other guests to be wearing cocktail dresses and tux. But then a middle-aged man with a pronounced beer gut wearing an orange Hawaiian shirt, khaki shorts, a pair of flip-flops walked by, only then I started to relax. I headed straight for the elevators, I wasn’t sure what was my destination but I knew I had to go up.

As I managed to push and shove my way in, the elevator became larger. There were a lot of people but oddly enough there was still room to maneuver. At the back of the elevator I saw Angelina Jolie clad in black changing into  a floral print sun-dress. She looked up and handed me her leather boots and asked me where her other shoes were. For some apparent reason I gave her my Birkenstock and I put on her boots. As the doors to the elevator open, she told me not to mention anything to anyone. I was confused but I managed to nod.

I walked out of the elevator into what looked like a gaming center. Immediately I smelled cinnamon buns and proceeded to hunt them down. As I reached the snack bar all I found was apple pies and cakes but no cinnamon buns. At that point I was irritated. I walked away in search of my friends and I felt myself walking funny, like one of my legs was longer than the other. I looked down to see the boots I was wearing had different heels. One was a bulky four-inched heel and the others was a six-inched stiletto. I spotted my friend playing pokies and asked her if she was winning…

Then I woke up thinking about cinnamon buns………. >_<

Letting Go…

Filed under: Uncategorized — kancilz at 7:39 am on Saturday, June 28, 2008

I will never regret what I had although in the end it hurt to let go but without it I will never be the person I am today. I’ve learned so much and I have experienced love, and I’m grateful. But at the end of the day some things we can only leave it up to fate. Whether our paths will cross or we will remain far out of reach, if it was meant then so be it.

Borrowing the words of Jason Mraz (and yes I am obsessed with this song at the moment):

"… Neither one of us deserves the blame because opportunities moved us away
And it’s not an easy thing to learn to play a game that’s made for two that’s you and me
The rules remain a mystery" ~Absolutely Zero

On Autopilot

Yes I am a bit slack at this but for those of you who actually read my first post I did say this was going to happen. I have perfected the art of bumming and I’m getting a little bit freaked out at how I’m a little too comfortable at doing absolutely nothing. My parents have been telling me to get a job but I’m just not feeling it, maybe a lack of motivation? I don’t know.

Contrary to popular belief, I actually do want to have a job with a somewhat steady income and just do something with this uneventful life of mine. Actually going through the motion of job hunting is a whole other story. Although honestly I really need to get off my ass and find work because this is getting a bit ridiculous.

Coming back home has been, for lack of a better word, mind-numbing… Life as a student you’ve only got two options, you fail or you pass, therefore all you need to figure out is how to achieve the latter. That constant I had for most of my life has been taken away as soon as I finished my course and it’s nothing but terrifying. I just don’t know what the hell I’m suppose to do or be. I’m living life on autopilot and I’m not ready to take the wheel.

Japan and back

Filed under: Uncategorized — kancilz at 8:35 pm on Friday, March 2, 2007

Dsc01404So I went to Japan a l’il more than a week after I came back to Hong Kong hehehe… Stayed for seventeen days from the 11th to the 28th of Feb. My flight was in the morning which is totally not cool but I keep telling myself I’m going to Japan to see Chuck so a little bit of sacrifice is well worth it (not really but I really did try to believe it :P).

Moving on…

The plane landed half an hour early, oh and I’ve got to say Japan airlines food is pretty good considering most of the time I eat airplane food I feel like puking (five star chef my ass), anyway I got through immigration and baggage claim quite quickly and since my sweet boy has a problem of coming in early to the airport, I had to wait a bit like a lost kid before I heard Jason’s voice saying "do you think the plane has landed yet?" and Chuck replying "I dunno" without realizing that I’ve been calling his name like three times… -_-

I manage to catch up with Jason for a couple of days, we went to Hard Rock and Tony Roma’s in Tokyo, all the while hunting down some sponge like thingy that’s suppose to be some kind of hair removal apparatus (for his sister), I actually found it after Jason left and tried it but of course it didn’t work. The next day we went to Disney Sea, we didn’t go to Disneyland cause it’s pretty much the same everywhere. We ate dinner at Minatomirai then went to Donki so Jason can get cheap snacks and booze to bring back (never use credit card in those places just fyi).

I realize that I did a whole lot more this time around compared to the last time I came to Japan. The new places I visited while I was there were Studio Ghibli museum, Kita-Kamakura (to see temples) oh and I went up the Landmark Tower. I even visited Osaka for two days to see my aunt and cousin, who I haven’t seen for over a decade.

Dsc01439Studio Ghibli museum is so worth the visit, if you’re a fan of films like Laputa (Castle in the Sky), Totoro and all that. Getting tickets is a bit complicated since you need to book in advance or go to the Travel Bureau near Mitaka station on the day you visit since they don’t sell tickets at the museum itself. But once you’re in the place is so pretty that you just don’t give a crap about the other stuff. Unfortunately you can’t take pictures inside the museum but you can go up to the roof where they have a life size replica of the robot in Laputa, which is totally awesome and near the entrance there’s also a life-size Totoro doll :) The architecture and interior in that place is crazy cool, you feel like you’re in one of their films, the windows and doors that leads outside are stain glass with characters from all the movies that have been released, the walls even have paintings of creatures and windows with a view that are so good you have to look twice before you realize it’s fake. Of course I had to buy souvenirs, and I ended buying a doll, 3-D postcards, a T-shirt and a paper-weight of the Laputa robot’s head plus some other little knick-knacks.

Dsc01444I took the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Osaka the weekend after the start of Chinese New Year cos we had to have dinner with Chuck’s parents, the weather’s crap and there were no available rooms in Osaka that week hehehe.. We arrived in Osaka at 12:30 and went straight to Universal Studios. The line was all packed so we only got to go on the Back to the Future ride, so a preview of the musical Wicked and see one of the 4-D films, plus we took a bunch of pictures. We then went tothe Takoyaki museum before we went to the hotel. The next day we went to the Aquarium and met my cousin and my aunt for lunch. It was a pretty nice trip, the only thing I hate is the lack of western toilets (hate squatters)

Dsc01486Back in Yokohama… we arrived late at night. Went to Kita-Kamakura to see temples and the like… We visited two big temples. And both were quite spectacular, nestled underneath hills. The weather was quite nice but we went a bit late so after the second temple most of the places were closed, we wanted to go to Kamakura to the Big Buddha statue there but as Jason said "you have a bigger one in Hong Kong".

It was a really nice trip but since I’m a lazy bum I can’t be bothered writing about every single thing, so with that said I’m gonna end this post and go deal with the people at the Smart ID centre.

Back Home!

So I’ve arrived in Hong Kong! Actually I arrived on Tuesday but I was dead to the world after I got home and spent these few days catching up with some peeps. So far I went to watch the Holiday at Pacific Place. Daaannnggg… the cinema has leather seats and the toilets are friggin awesome! I know it’s a rather odd comment but you know how public toilets are usually disgusting, not this one… each cubicle has its own toilet and sink, a full length mirror and it’s spotless! Oh and I had sweet popcorn, no more crappy salty popcorns for me thank you very much!

Went to the Cavern to listen to some tunes, played pool, had Szechuan food and went for karaoke (of course), not on the same day and these event are in no particular order plus I did a bunch of other stuff like take the ferry and the mall. Ooohhh and last night I went to the fifties in Lan Kwai Fong with my parents. The waiter thought I was sixteen, which used to piss me off but i figured if people think that I’m in my late twenties when I’m forty then I’m pretty much in good shape :P

This is gonna be a short entry since all I want to do is say that I’m back in Hong Kong and for those of you who are in the city that never sleeps then give me a ring on my usual number if you dun have it and want to catch up then msg me… Smoochie woochies! Catch y’all later

Holiday… Celebrate!!!

Well first things first… You might be wondering if I passed my research essay or not but I’m gonna tell you anyway hehehe… For those of you in Hong Kong, you probably heard it from my parents already….. So basically I passed and I’ve planned to attend my graduation ceremony in Hong Kong. There are a couple of reasons why I’m doing this even though my parents was kindda hoping I did it here in Melbourne. Basically I didn’t want to cash out three roundtrip tickets to Melbourne and the ceremony is in Clayton which is like an hour from the city and it sucks travelling  at night. Plus the ceremony in Hong Kong is at Grand Hyatt hahahahah.

So now I need to start packing…….. Aaaaaggghh!!!! And Chuck left yesterday sniff… Went to the airport to see him off… Thanks vernon for driving us hehehe… Well that’s probably the only news I’ve got so far… Nothing exciting ever happens here… Toodles!

Rocky the Survivor!

So when my mom was here which was a couple of months ago and then some, we went to the Aquarium and Chuck convinced me to buy sea monkeys. Basically it’s comes in a kit with a plastic container, a sachet of this powder that treats the water, the sea monkeys that also comes in a sachet and their food. You can hardly see them and I don’t know why I kept them alive for this long cause they don’t do anything (apparently I was responsible for feeding them even though there’s two other people in this apartment).  Well anyway I stopped feeding them for a few days now (I just can’t be bothered) and one still lives.

At the moment we call him Rocky, other choices are Kong, Schwarzenegger or Bob. I can’t decide. When his mates were alive, he was Gigantor but then without anything to compare him with it’s kindda stupid. You can barely see the corpses of the dead sea monkeys at the bottom. Seriously sea monkeys are the most boring pets ever! They’re semi-transparent, they look like magnified sperm, you know like on discovery channel and they show those CGI sperm attacking the egg, yeah… sea monkeys that’s what they look like. Ok moving on, Rocky just won’t die. A couple of times we thought he finally gave up but then we see him swimming around on the surface. He’s a fighter that one, can’t help but respect his will to survive. I could just dump him in the sink but part of me wants to know how much longer he’ll live. That sounds a bit sadistic but if you have pets that needs purified water to survive well then they’re just asking for it.

Anyhoo here’s to Rocky or if anybody can think of a better name, tell me, it’s not like I have anything better to do…

My Li’l Magic Box

Lost_all_photo_01_lgUggh… JJ Abrams is driving me nuts. It seems that he and the writers come up with so many twists and turns that even they’re confused about it. Each episode is like alright-now-what type of moments. All these questions and mystery yet no resolve whatsoever. Plus they focus more on Jack, Kate and Sawyer during their encounter with the Others, jooooyyy… *roll eyes* The three characters I care the least about and the "mysterious" hobos, fan-freakin-tastic. It’s like the whole Rambaldi hoopla in Alias. I personally call this whole fiasco JJ Abrams’ curse of the third season.

Heroes_logo
It’s like the less cheesier version of Mutant X with better writing and more mystery. There’s actual character development in this show which is a nice change. It doesn’t center on just one character and it’s pretty fast paced (so far).  All the characters are linked but only a handfull have met, you don’t really know who the bad guy is and they need to stop a murderer to prevent a nuclear explosion (confused? me too but it’s a good type of confusion). The only concern I have is that it gets too complicated with too many character and they lose focus. Hrmm… fingers crossed on this one.

Friday_night_lights
This show I find quite interesting. It was a movie first and usually movie turn tv shows suck but this one’s actually good. They have a good cast, the writing great but then again what can’t you do with a big budget. Only problem they have is ratings. I heard they show this the same time as Monday night football which is stupid and a damn shame. It’s about a small town that’s totally obsessed with football. It revolves around a highschool football team trying to go through to the championship and all that. As far as highschool teen shows goes, this one’s much grittier. Personally I could care less about whiney rich teens that you find in shows like the OC *roll eyes* I really hope this show doesn’t get the sack just because it’s slotted in the wrong time.

Studio_60_title_card
Aaron Sorkin, need I say more? Great writing and some of the cast from West Wing is in it, which is always a good thing. And then there’s Matthew Perry, a nice change from his character in Friends (Chandler was always my favorite character). It’s basically a behind the scenes look at an SNL type show. Seriously, go watch this one!

So that’s what I’ve been watching so far :P Felt like putting in my two cents. We need more shows like these instead of pointless reality tv, addictive it may be. OK toodles!!!!

Motherly love and Tulips galore!

Dsc00150So my mother arrived a week ago. Being blah-blah years old (she’d kill me if I inform ppl about her age :P), I’m constantly amazed at how energetic she is. I mean seriously, her energy puts me, who is considerably younger, to shame! Of course it’s also the fact that I’m a lazy bum but still…

Anyway, she has been bugging me and everybody else she knows in Melbourne about the tulip festival held every year during the months of september and october. So the day after she arrived I dragged chuck and gabey to the festival with my mom. The journey starts with a fifteen minute bus ride from port melbourne to flinders station in the city, then we took the train to Lilydale which took about an hour and a half an hour bus ride to Silvan. Was it worth it? It would have been if I had worn better socks. I ended up with blisters on the heels of my feet and I was wearing converse high tops which is a bitch to put on and take off! But apart from the excruciating pain at the end of a very long day, the festival was pretty cool if you like flowers, which I do. Took a hundred over pictures (check out my album). My mother was annoyed because most of the pics I took are off flowers rather than people and flowers :P We ended the excursion by heading back to the city and having Mekong (vietnamese noodle restaurant) for dinner.

Fast forward to Sunday, we went to the St Kilda Sunday market. The sun was shining and the wind was blowing and people were running a marathon… Despite the sun, the weather was friggin cold and I was unfortunately underdressed. I bought a pretty ’sterling silver’ ring (the guy who sold it kept reminding me with a french accent that it was sterling silver) for like twenty four bucks. I met up with chuck in the city and me, chuck, amien, and my mom had hard rock for dinner. My sandwich was a bit eugghh (never again will I order a sandwich with blue cheese). Got a T-shirt for my dad and took a taxi home cause it was raining…

Today, my mother went to Victoria Market by herself… I was worried but she is capable, I suppose… She came back safe and sound with fresh meat, vegetables and doughnuts…. Chuck’s cooking them right now. Can I just say, I am so glad I’m dating a guy who can cook :) That’s all I have to say at the mo’… ‘Til the next post…!!

Reptiles and Duets

Snakesonaplane_4It’s me here… I’ve been trying to write a post about snakes on a plane but due to a wide variety of circumstances (coupled with my laziness), I just never got the chance.  But here it goes… Snakes on a Plane is freakin’ awesome! If you just want to watch something fun, this would be the perfect movie. A lot of the people say "Oh that movie’s gonna be so stupid" and I say "That’s what so great about it!" I mean seriously, THE Samuel L. Jackson fighting snakes on a plane. Come on people, it doesn’t get any better than that! Trust me! I don’t need to tell you anything else about the plot (it’s not really important), go watch!

I’ve also been watching Celebrity Duets which is one of my favorite reality show out of the gazillion reality shows out there. In the show, a bunch of celebs that includes: Jai Rodriguez (Queer Eye), Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton in Fresh Prince), Lucy Lawless (Xena), Hal Sparks (Queer as Folk), Cheech Marin (y’all know who Cheech is…), Carly Patterson (Olympic gymnast), Lea Thompson (Back to The Future), and Chris Jericho (WWE), get paired up by different music artists each week to sing well… a duet and compete for charity plus a chance to launch a music career. It’s a really cool show and since they’re already famous, it makes things more interesting and much more entertaining seeing them act like Idol wannabes LOL

So far my top 5 reality show would be:
1. Iron Chef (Japanese version)
2. Gene Simmons Family Jewels
3. Celebrity Duets
4. Project Runway
5. Rockstar: Supernova

I know the Japanese Iron Chef is over but regardless it’s still my fave, the American version just suck! If you don’t know who Gene Simmons is shame…. SHAME! (he’s the guy from KISS). I think his show is better than the Osbournes simply because they’re less annoying and unlike Ozzy, you can actually understand what Gene Simmons is saying :P I feel like I need to explain myself for Project Runway, I like designers. Anyone who can create something out of scratch gets my vote, I mean it’s better than watching people going round the world or stuck in an island doing challenges and bitching OR posing in front of the camera and bitching…. Rockstar would’ve scored higher if the results weren’t so damn predictable!

Yes so that’s my reality show obsession, not like I have a choice cos every other show on TV is a reality show *sigh* Well that’s all I have to say, just felt like sharing my opinion even if you don’t give a rat’s patootie about any of it. Toodles!!!
